Mindset: Your Superpower!

Your mindset is your superpower

Your mindset is the self-preceptions of beliefs that you hold about yourself, and that can be so powerful! Your mindset is going to determine your behavior, outlook, and mental attitude about your life.

Mindset is the first, and most important step in your health and wellness journey! You have to shift your perspective on health and wellness from “temporary fixes” to “this is my lifestyle”. Sounds simple enough, right? However, the health and wellness industry is saturated with so many quick fixes and fad diets that are designed to keep you on the hamster wheel of dieting, because that’s how they make their money. Instead of always being “one a diet” and misribaly constricted, I encourage you to start shifting your mindset to lifestyle changes that feel good!

Read on for the best way to start shifting your mindset and perspective on health and wellness and start embracing your superpower!

The best way to achieve this is to ditch the “all or nothing” mindset that comes with temporary change and start with 1 small change at a time. Once that small change becomes part of your routine, you will add another. Alone, these changes might not seem significant, but when you start stacking them on top of each other they start to become powerful and life-changing!

Here are a few examples of small changes you can start making TODAY to start building that healthy lifestyle mindset. These examples are small but can have a powerful impact when they become part of your routine.

NEat

Increasing your NEAT, which is non-exercise activity thermogenesis. This is the energy you expend for everything you do that is NOT sleeping, eating, or working out! Meaning the more movement and activity you have each day the better. Aim for 7,000-10,000 steps every day, always take the stairs, instead of 1 big trip with your groceries, make it 3 or 4 for extra steps and carrying loads! Finding small ways to increase your activity during the day might not seem like much but over time it will have a big impact.

Hydration

Weight gain, low energy, poor focus, low metabolism, headaches, and cravings can all stem from NOT DRINKING ENOUGH WATER. You don’t have to just take my word for it….if that list describes your life then I encourage you to start drinking more water to see if things improve! The amount of water needed by everyone will vary based on many factors such as climate, menstruation, and physical output, just to name a few. While there is no “one size fits all” magic number that you need, there are some minimum guidelines that have been set for general health. The US Department of Health and Human Services recommends drinking 104-128 fl oz for men and 72-96 fl oz. per day for women. These amounts should serve as a baseline goal that you can adjust as necessary based on your daily activity and climate.

Nutrition Audit

How do you make changes to something if you don’t really know where to focus? Instead of just jumping into the “next best diet”, I encourage you to take some time to do a nutrition audit. Without making any changes to your daily nutritional choices, write down and review your day and see what it looks like. Maybe you need more protein? Maybe you are eating more sugar than you realized? Taking an audit will help you zero in on small changes and adjustments you can make.

These are a few examples of habits you can start incorporating into your daily routine and start changing your mindset and embracing your superpower. The bottom line is that you can sign up for every fitness program, and hire all the coaches you want, but until you decide that you are actually going to make the full-time commitment to embracing it as a lifestyle versus a temporary fix, you are not going to find the results you are looking for.
